Wildfire at Swanton Pacific Ranch
Overview
Swanton Pacific Ranch was heavily impacted by the 2020 CZU Lightning Complex Fire, leaving much of the property burned. However, two small areas were largely shielded from the fire’s effects. To investigate the impact of wildfire disturbance on microbial communities, we collected soil samples from both the surface and 10 cm depth in "burned" and "low burn" zones. This study was conducted in collaboration with CALeDNA scientists, ASPIRE UCSC Fellows, and with consultation from experts at Swanton Ranch.
